The prestigious Zim Music Awards 2020 took center stage this past weekend. The awards were held at the Newlands Country Club in Harare on Saturday night and as usual, they were marred with a lot of controversies.

The awards took a hiatus for some time after being hardest hit but financial constraints and this year they made a comeback but it seems as if it was not a triumphant one.

According to Nehanda Radio Zimbabwean A-list celebrities who were nominated including the likes of Jah Prayzah, Winky D and Alick Macheso, among others were a no show.

This year everyone expected the organizers to pull off a  spectacular event filled with glitz and glamour but it all went south. Nehanda reports that the event was scheduled to commence at 7 pm but it started 2 hours late and the red carpet was rolled around 5 pm.
Guests frequently complained about hunger and the delay but no one bothered to communicate the latest developments and on why things were running late. There was no entertainment during that confusion, forcing guests to entertain themselves with their mobile phones, taking selfies.

Despite the drama Freeman, the dancehall singer clean sweep as he bagged three awards in the best album of the year, Zimdancehall and best music video categories. Other musicians who walked home armful included  Ishan and Gemma Griffiths who took home the best male and best female artists of the year respectively.

Congratulations to all the winners.
