Born and raised in Soweto during the apartheid era to an African woman and a European father, Trevor Noah’s childhood was not the easiest. He however developed a sense of humour that helped him cope and it, later on, became his money maker.

Trevor Noah officially kickstarted his career in 2002, at the age of 18 years old when he landed a small role on SABC3’s Isidingo. Shortly after that, he went on to host a show called Noah’s Ark on YFM.

He eventually dropped his radio and acting career to focus on comedy and was able to work with South African comedians including David Kau, Riaad Moosa, Kagiso Lediga, Marc Lottering, Barry Hilton, Darren Simpson, and Nik Rabinowitz. The following year he co-hosted The Amazing Date alongside Pabi Moloi and in 2009, he hosted the 3rd Annual South Africa Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs). In 2010, Noah hosted the 6th Annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs). His hosting gigs provided him with enough exposure to have his own show on MNet called Tonight with Trevor Noah which was later moved to DStv’s Mzansi Magic.

Trevor Noah also toured South Africa and performed with The Blacks Only Comedy Show, the Vodacom Campus Comedy Tour, the Heavyweight Comedy Jam, the Jozi Comedy Festival, the Cape Town International Comedy Festival, and Bafunny Bafunny which was shot in 2010.

In 2011, Trevor Noah relocated to the USA and in 2012 he became the first South African Comedian to appear on The Tonight Show and the first to appear on Late Show with David Letterman.

In 2012, Trevor Noah’s life was officially documented in You Laugh But It’s True and he was also the roastmaster for the Comedy Central Roast of South African Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr.

In 2014, Trevor Noah became a recurring contributor to The Daily Show. The following year in March, Comedy Central announced that Trevor Noah would succeed Jon Stewart on The Daily Show starting on the 28th of September 2015.

Noha’s contract as the host of The Daily Show was extended in 2017 by Comedy Central for five more years, through 2022.

In 2019, Trevor bought a mansion in Bel-Air, Los Angeles, USA, for around $20 million and sold it less than two years later at about $21.5 million making a profit of $1 million. In 2021, he bought another Japanese-inspired mansion still in Bel-Air for approximately $27.5 million. He sold this mansion in March 2022 but this time he made a $1 million loss as the property reportedly sold for $26.4 million.

Alongside his investments in the US, Trevor Noah has also invested big in South Africa. He reportedly owns an apartment in Cape Town and a house in Johannesburg’s leafy suburbs.
