Zimbabwean pop singer Ammara Brown was born in Harare, on September 6, 1988. The singer and dancer is well known for her dance-floor singles such as "Svoto," "Mafaro," and "Kure Kure,". 

At the tender age of 19, she was a top-five contestant on Mnet's Idols, and in 2015 at the Ziwa Awards, she was crowned Musician of the Year. Her fame and popularity can directly be attributed to her work as an artist and musician.

Ammara Brown and dancer Darim share a beautiful son named Khameel. Ammara Brown gave birth to her child when she was in her twenties and although she and Khameel’s father have not walked down the aisle, Ammara Brown says she loves him endlessly for the gift he gave her.


Although she is a public figure, not much is known about Ammara Brown’s child and she prefers to keep her family life out of the limelight.

The artist came from a family of musicians and so music was ingrained in Ammara Brown has been compared to her late father, Andy Brown, in the past. Her musical approach, however, is unique in that she sings Afro/Pop music.


She was thrust into the music industry at the age of three and received her first taste of fame in a 1997 television commercial for Olive cooking oil. She began learning to play the Mbira and the piano when she was nine years old.

At the age of 13, she joined the Martin Luther King Choir and recorded a demo song for her parents, which moved her father to tears.

Ammara Brown won the regional Music Crossroads in 2004 and went on to gain honors and distinctions at the College of Performing Arts (COPA).

She was one of only five Zimbabweans in the top ten of Idols East and Southern Africa in 2008, but she was removed after only making it to fifth place. She performed alongside Flabba from Skwatta Kamp at the FIFA soccer World Cup in South Africa in 2010. Joyce Banda and Bingu Wa Mutharika, Malawi's presidents, have both seen her perform.

Ammara Brown has performed with Mi Casa, Skwata Kamp, P-Square, Winky D, and Tehn Diamond at the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA).

Who are Ammara Brown’s Parents?

Ammara Brown comes from a family of musicians. She, predictably, chose to follow music as well. Andy Brown, her father, is a Zimbabwean musician, singer, and songwriter.


Soraya Khan is Ammara Brown's mother. Her mother is her rock, she says. Soraya Khan, according to Ammara, was the one who pushed her to become the well-known vocalist she is today.

In 1994, her parents split, and she relocated to the United States with her mother. She told the incident of her father abusing her mother in one of her music videos.
