Quality over quantity

Just weeks after the 2019 edition of ROIL Bulawayo Arts Awards (ROILBAAs) took place, which saw the celebration of over 150 artists in different categories cutting across the music, film, theatre, dance, spoken word, literary arts, visual arts and school's art efforts sector for the 3rd year running,  the verdict to make some changes was unanimous.

First on the list is the agreement by the BAA and the Roil Cooking Oil to move the the dates of the awards to a warmer month to allow attendees to show off as much as they want in terms of fashion. This comes after some complaints from the attendees about the cold in June.

Secondly, the awards will be moving venues. Although still at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre, they will no longer be hosted at Hall 4, but at a venue big enough and with better acoustics. In addition, 10 categories will be scrapped off from the event so as to focus on quality rather than quantity, also making the awards ceremony shorter and more entertaining.

Lastly, pre-events will be added with the aim of seeing momentum and excitement gather and peak in the big awards ceremony. All changes are meant to improve the growth and quality of the ROILBAAs as a whole.

With these changes in full effect, the 2020 ROILBAAs will be hosted in August.
