Berita is a multi-award-winning artist born Gugulethu Khumalo on June 27, 1991, in Bulawayo City, Zimbabwe. She has become more well-liked in Southern Africa, particularly in South Africa and Zimbabwe. 

Since she has established a reputation as a singer, her voice is her superpower. She has been dazzling music lovers with her incredible performances on television and on stage while writing songs as well.

Since she was a teenager, or more specifically when she was 18 years old, she has been passionate about painting. She began by singing in a church chorus in Zhombe, where she also practiced and improved her vocal abilities.

The singer, born in Bulawayo City, also plays the guitar and creates music in addition to singing and writing songs. She has achieved widespread recognition in the music industry thanks to her talent.

Berita's husband

Nhlamulo "Lavida Nota" Baloyi, a contentious music critic, was Berita's husband. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the couple wed in 2020. After the reunion of both families, she wrote on Instagram that she would celebrate with her partner hugely after the coronavirus pandemic ended.

Months later, after Nota Baloyi's provocative remark went viral, she disclosed that she had split from him.

Berita's Net Worth

As a guitarist and singer, Berita is succeeding. She does not flaunt her material possessions like most people in the entertainment world do.

Despite this, she does not have a seat among the impoverished. Instead, she is one of Zimbabwe's wealthiest musicians, albeit her exact net worth is unknown.

Berita's Career

Berita (Gugulethu Khumalo) released "Conquering Spirit," her debut studio album, in 2012, debuting at #1 on iTunes. She received RISA Gold Status for the album, and it took home the Best African Pop Album prize at the 2013 Metro FM Awards.

She collaborated with Oliver Mtukudzi and the late Hugh Masekela on the album tune "Mwana Wa Mai."

She participated in Coke Studio in 2016, which resulted in the song "Vusu Yeke," which she co-wrote with a rapper by the name of Yanga Chief, being released.

"Ezizweni," one of her songs, peaked at number one on the Metro FM Top 40 and Ukhozi FM Top 20 charts. Additionally, "Ndicel'ikiss," one of her first tracks, peaked at number 21 on the RAMS radio monitor rankings.

Berita's Education


Gugulethu Khumalo, better known by her stage name Berita, was born in Bulawayo on June 27, 1991. She is the firstborn child in a family of five.

Her early years were spent in Zhombe and Bulawayo, where her parents worked as Rio Tinto teachers. TheCityCeleb has not yet confirmed the names of her mother or siblings.

In her hometown of Bulawayo, Berita (Gugulethu Khumalo) previously attended St. Martin de Porres Primary School and Nketa Primary School before transferring to Greenfield Primary School.

Due to the difficult economic and political conditions in Zimbabwe, she and her family moved to New Zealand in 2007 in search of greener pastures. Later, they moved to South Africa so that she could complete her university studies at Walter Sisulu University in the Eastern Cape.

Is Berita Xhosa?

Berita doesn't have Xhosa ancestry. However, she became interested in speaking Xhosa after spending a lot of time in South Africa, and it is her command of this language has caused confusion and led South Africans to claim her.
