Simon Khaya Moyo was a Zimbabwean veteran politician and diplomat who served in several ministerial positions and an ambassadorial position to South Africa.

In November 2021, Khaya Moyo succumbed to cancer and left behind a family that will forever miss him.

Here is a look at who Simon Khaya Moyo’s wife was, his ex-wife, his children as well as his death and burial.

Who was Simon Khaya Moyo’s wife?

The late Simon Khaya Moyo’s wife was Margaret Mhambi Moyo. She is a businesswoman and a mother of two children.

Simon Khaya Moyo and Margaret Mhambi Moyo got married in a private wedding ceremony in May 2013 at Greystone Park, Harare. At the time of their wedding, Simon Khaya Moyo was 66 years old and his wife was 55.

According to the former couple’s close friend, the garden wedding was held at night under the stars and was attended by 30 close relatives and friends of the happy couple on Africa Day. The ceremony was officiated by the Heads of Christian Denominations chairperson- Dr Goodwill Shana

The couple had reportedly known each other for 12 years prior to getting married and their wedding was delayed by Simon Khaya Moyo’s divorce to his first wife which only got finalized a few months to their wedding.

Simon Khaya Moyo’s ex-wife

Simon Khaya Moyo’s first wife was Sibonokuhle Gertrude Ngwenya. The two got married on the  30th of August 1980.

They had a long marriage that lasted over 30 years until August 2012, when Simon Khaya Moyo filed for divorce from Sibonokhuhle Gertrude Ngwenya, claiming that there was no "love and affection" and that the marriage had irretrievably broken down, as well as that "no conjugal rights were enjoyed between the parties." An affidavit also revealed that there was infidelity in the marriage and Sibonkhuhle had reportedly had an affair with another man.

As part of the divorce settlement, Simon Khaya Moyo agreed to give up his Edenvale farm in Mangwe District, Bulawayo, with 150 cattle and all farm implements, as well as a house in Bulawayo's Selbourne suburb, on the condition that Gertrude did not remarry or cohabit with another man.

Their divorce was finalized on the 20th of February 2013.

Simon Khaya Moyo’s children

The late Simon Khaya Moyo was blessed with two biological children (both sons) from his first marriage-  Khanyisa Khaya Mduduzi Moyo (born 7 July 1982) and Mandlenkosi Khaya Moyo (born 4 April 1986).

He didn’t have any biological children with his second wife although she too has two sons from her previous relationship.

In addition to his two biological sons and his two step-sons, Simon Khaya Moyo also adopted a 12-year-old boy from Matobo village in 2013 called Prime Ndlovu. He made a commitment to educate the young boy up to the university level.

Simon Khaya Moyo’s death

Simon Khaya Moyo began having health issues in 2017 and he went on a paid sick leave for 8 months. He was serving as the Minister of Media, Information and Broadcasting Services at the time.

He died on the 14th of November 2021 at the age of 76 years old while receiving treatment for cancer at the Mater Dei Hospital.

He was laid to rest on the 22nd of November 2021 at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
