Kuda Mahachi
Kudakwashe Mahachi also known as simply Kuda Mahachi is a Zimbabwean professional footballer who had a successful career.

He played as a winger for the Zimbabwe national team and the South African club called SuperSport United FC until recently when he was suspended from the club following serious child abuse allegations against his son- Diego. The football star had also played for other big clubs in South Africa including Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates in the past.

Here is a look at everything that happened to Kuda Mahachi’s son as well as the ongoing court case against the footballer.

What happened to Kuda Mahachi’s son?

In April 2022, Kuda Mahachi’s son lived through the most gruesome pain after he was physically abused. The four-year-old was reportedly scalded with boiling water and did not receive medical attention in time which resulted in his leg being amputated.

Although the football star has been the main suspect in his son’s horrific abuse allegations, he has time and again denied the allegations while providing different accounts of what happened to the young boy.

According to the mother’s boy- Maritha Ndlovu who is also Kuda Mahachi’s ex-wife, the abuse happened in South Africa where the young boy had gone to visit his father. The young boy was later smuggled into Zimbabwe from South Africa through a Malayitsha and taken to Mahachi’s mother’s house in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo for a week before the child’s mother was informed.

“My son is four years old but he is not stupid and he has been talking. He says his father was abusing him. One of his front teeth is missing after his father hit him with some kind of iron bar and he has an injury on the forehead. His back is scourged from being whipped with a phone charger cable by his stepmother. But that is nothing compared to what his father did to him. He told me that his father beat him and then boiled water using a kettle and poured it on him.” Maritha Ndlovu said.

When contacted about the allegations, Kuda Mahachi denied the allegations saying that he had sent his son back in one piece and that if he had been burned then that had happened while he was in Zimbabwe.

Following the allegations made by his ex-wife, Kuda Mahachi’s club SuperSport suspended him and announced that they wouldn’t be renewing his contract.

The abused minor was taken into custody by the Department of Social Welfare and the footballer was charged with attempted murder and child neglect in court where he pleaded not guilty and his case is ongoing.

Both his ex-wife- Maritha Ndlovu, and his grandmother, Julian Ntuli (82) testified against the embattled footballer on 14th September 2022 at the Bulawayo Tredgold Magistrates court where the case is being heard.

On the 25th of November 2022, Kuda Mahachi was acquitted of the attempted murder charges by Bulawayo regional magistrate Mark Dzira.

In his verdict, the magistrate ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove the essential elements of the case and that the evidence given by witnesses was contradictory and disjointed. He further noted that medical experts could not figure out the cause of the injuries.

In addition to the abuse allegations, Kuda Mahachi had also been previously accused of theft of his sister’s iPhone in an attempt to conceal evidence. bhe charges were later dropped.
