Yesterday many people came out guns blazing, calling out Broadcasting Authority in Zimbabwe (BAZ) after its move to ban Tocky Vibes new song African Queen.

The reasons for the ban of the song were that it was too explicit for public consumption and it insulted the Binga culture.

BAZ in a letter to all Zimpapers radio stations state the following “We advise that we have received a complaint about the song ‘African Queen’ by Tocky Vibes, where the complainant has indicated that they find some parts of the lyrics of the song offensive as they appear to denigrate the people of Binga."

The Authority argues that the song contains some offensive lyrics to the Binga culture.

These lyrics are: “Ukaenda Binga vanhu vanenge vakashama, ukagara Binga uchange waka shama. (If you go to Binga people will be naked, if you stay in Binga you will be naked.)”

However ,Tocky Vibes told The Sunday Mail that he was shocked by the decision that was taken by BAZ to ban his song as there is nothing wrong with it.

He said “Some people think that I insulted them. But this song actually praises women, it celebrates African women. My inspiration for the song and video came from Jah Prayzah’s song in which he showcases the culture of the people of Binga."

"I said to myself, these are the people that still represent Africa. They may not walk around like that today but that is their culture. We should be having problems with people that celebrate clothes  because clothes were not part of our culture. We never used to put on any clothes."

His fans were not impressed by the ban and dragged BAZ for being out to get Tocky Vibes because many other Zimdancehall artists make the same music but their songs have not been banned.

One Facebook user said “We listened to the song Gum Kum by Souljah Love which is so explicit and BAZ never banned it. We watch American songs on programmes like Coke on the Beat, why did you only see Tocky’s song as faulty.”

Another Facebook user wrote “Its not fair what they did on Tocky, Baba Harare always sings vulgar but his music is played on air ,why only Tocky ."

Some even think that Tocky’s song is a political fight since he once sang a song that was politically controversial.
