Without a doubt, Tino Kadewere is currently Zimbabwe's hottest sporting export for the moment.

He has had a trailblazing first half of the season in Ligue 1 and it seems like there's no stopping him. While Ligue 1 was on its break Tino came home to see family and friends and rest and recuperate before returning to action.

It was while on this trip home that Tino Kadewere was invited to the State House by the first family. A visit that sparked controversy across social media as people castigated him but we don't think he would be bothered.

Famba Tino
is a slogan that has become famous whenever Lyon is playing and quite a few Zimbabweans who are disgruntled with the current president said they would no longer be chanting Famba Tino after pictures of the player with the president surfaced. Tino not only looked proud with a smile on his face but he adorned the striped scarf that has become synonymous with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

According to The Herald, Kadewere was overjoyed when he realised one of his life long professional dreams after paying a visit to the State House. The 24-year-old footballer currently plying his trade for Lyon in the French Ligue 1 said he was deeply humbled by the humility of the First Family and felt motivated to lift the Zimbabwean flag even higher in his endeavours.

Kadewere was accompanied by his wife, Sharon, and brothers Prosper and Pardon who head the Kadewere Foundation which supports the vulnerable and underprivileged.

The Warriors forward was presented with a book gift, a rare publication by the President entitled “A Life of Sacrifice” and he reciprocated the gesture by handing him two (home and away) jerseys for Olympique Lyon as souvenirs.

“It was an honour to be able to get to meet His Excellency,” said Kadewere.

“When my brother told me that we had been invited by the President, I was touched and I said to myself this has always been a dream. It gave me a boost in my head and so much confidence that even the President himself is proud of what I am doing. It gives me the courage to be able to do more for my country. The book present he gave me is wonderful. I never expected it. I was actually shocked about how humble the First Family is.

The footballer also discussed the work of his foundation with the first lady and they agreed to collaborate in the future.

“My brother Prosper is actually doing a lot of work locally with the help of Pardon. I’m going back to France happy because the First Lady promised to help the Kadewere Foundation which is chaired by Boss Pulo," Kadewere said.

The anger on social seems to have calmed down but many have vowed never to support Tino again. His visit was seen as political and compared to Mesut Özil's meeting with Turkish President Erdogan but many defended it. We wait to see if Famba Tino trends again when Lyon plays next.

A day after the visit Nick Mangwana, the secretary for information confirmed that Tino Kadewere had been awarded the honour of Tourism Ambassador by the President.
