Why weren't there more?

The Zimbabwe Music Awards made a triumphant return to the nation's biggest stage last week and many of the most important players in the Zimbabwean pop culture scene were thrilled to see them happen.

One of the country's brightest commentators, Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa, expressed her delight at seeing the awards show return, but she had a bone to pick with the public at large.

Ruvheneko took to her Instagram page to question why so many of the country's artists, who were being celebrated on the day, were simply not present.

She said,

"The Zim Music Awards were well revived for an Awards Night that had faced some challenges over the past few years. What I didn't enjoy, however, was applauding for artist after artist who were not present. "

She had a point. It seemed as if many of the winners on the night couldn't be there to collect their prizes and by accounts from viewers who were in attendance, a few of the nominees weren't there either. She continued:

"I'm not sure why three quarters of the nominees and winners were not there on Friday night, but I'm sure there's a reason, because that cannot be a coincidence. Watching the Grammy's the night after put a longing in my heart. When will we also be great?"

She ended her lengthy message on an emphatic note when she said:

"The Zim artists of the moment should have lit that stage up and dazzled the red carpet, no? Nonetheless, Well Done to the organisers, the winners (in absentia), the nominees, performers and all those who contribute to our local music industry. We appreciate you! Here's to bigger and better! Here's to louder and prouder!"

Do you agree with Ruvheneko? Should there have been more Zim talent present?
